It consists of a mochi (glutinous rice cake) filled with an azuki bean puree or sweetened and wrapped in a sheet of Kashiwa (oak). Oak leaves represent prosperity because they fall before they are new shoots, symbolizing that parents should not die until the children are not born. Native cake is a popular all over Tokyo and eastern Japan.
